“What to do in Big Bear”

This year, 2010, in May one of the biggest events to come to Big Bear
Valley is the AMGEN Big Bear Bike Tour, Americas version of The Tour D'
France Bike Race. Would you believe the finish line is right here at the
Snow Summit parking lot.

Although 2-3 million spectators will line the 750 mile race starting in
Nevada City California the Big Bear organizing committee is expecting
upward of 25,000 people to attend the finish which covers much of the
valley floor right around the lake.

Round Town With Ron

Ron’s Blog – Monday, March 1, 2010

Round Town Ron writing to you from beautiful Big Bear Lake, California - where the surrounding mountains are filled with snow and the lake is
frozen waiting for Spring thaw.

I will attempt to keep you abreast of all the news pertaining to "What’s
New", What To Do" and "Why Visit Big Bear".

Today’s subject is what’s new to eat in Big Bear? The newest one to soon open will be “Papa Jacks – Smoquehouse Bar-Be-Que.” This new restaurant will be opening around the middle of March at 41618 Big Bear Blvd., across the street from the American Legion Post.

Their menu offers authentic smoked St. Louis Style Ribs, Texan’s Favorite Pit Smoked Brisket, BBQ Tri-Tip and Chicken smoked for hours with apple wood and slow smoked Prime rib. A variety of smoked meat sandwiches including Pulled Pork are on the menu.

If you’re a hamburger buff, they feature nine (9) varieties of hamburgers. Papa Jacks is more than a BBQ place as they offer Mexican Chimichangas and Tacos, fish items and much more.

The restaurant hours will be 7-days a week from 11 am till 10 pm and till 11 pm on Fridays and Saturdays. For reservations and take-out orders call 866-6888.

Light the fire – El Pollo Loco is coming to town. It has been announced a new El Pollo Loco franchised restaurant will be taking the place of Burger King at 41381 Big Bear Blvd, next door to the Shell Station. Plans for the new restaurant have been submitted to the City Planning Department and remodeling of the building should begin by the end of March with a May grand opening.

While the restaurant chain is noted for its marinated flame-broiled chicken, recently they have added flame grilled sirloin steak, marinated in citrus, garlic and spices. Many of you have dined at an El Pollo Loco restaurant and know the menu well. To add spice to any item they offer a great Salsa Bar where you’ll find their famous House Salsa, Avocado Salsa, Pico de Gallo and Salsa de Arbol! All are prepared fresh everyday.

I’ll keep you up on the progress of this restaurant as their grand opening draws closer.

Have a great day!
